We are a veterans organization that serves the community and has a hall available for public rental.

What We Do

Nutley's American Legion has been serving the Veterans of Nutley and the surrounding communities since 1919.

Our organization is dedicated to defending our Constitution and preserving the American way of life through community involvement and the education of our youth. 

We work closely with the rest of our legion family (SAL Squadron 70, Auxiliary Unit 70) the community and the American Legion hierarchy to achieve our goals.

How YOU Can Help

The Post is seeking sponsors for our Boys State program ($185 per boy) and our two Legion Baseball teams ($200).  A donation of any amount would be appreciated.

What's New?

FLAG DISPOSAL A Flag Disposal Ceremony is set fo June 25 at 7:00 PM in front of Town Hall in Nutley.  The public is invited.

BOYS STATE ORIENTATION Orientation for the 15 young men who Post 70 has sponsored for 2008 Boys' State will be held at 7PM on May 21 at Post 105. The bus to transport the young men to Boys' State will leave Post 70 at 7AM on June 15.

COMMUNITY DONATIONS Post 70 will be sneding cash donations to both the Nutley Volunteer Emergency Squad and the Army Emergency Relief Fund based on motions made at our April meeting.

BY-LAW CHANGE PASSED The number of members needed for a quorum was changed in our By-Laws at our March meeting. A copy of the new By-Laws can be found on out About Us page

Dept. Commander's Visit Dept. Commander Frank Calandrillo was at Post 70 March 13 for his official visit to Essex County at which time County Commander Pat McGinniss presented him with a check for $1,000.  See the March 2008 PostScript for more information on his visit.

GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS Post 70 wishes everyone a Happy and Safe New Year... especially those who serve to keep us safe and free every day...our men an women in uniform.  May we never forget them or their sacrifices.

CONGRATULATIONS  To the winners of our Coloring Contest; 1st Place went to Edward Punzalan of Radcliffe School.  Honorable Mentions went to Rachel Alessandra-Cordasco of Spring Garden, Chiara St Amant of Yantacaw, Nidia Bernal of Washington, David Fleurantin of Good Shepherd, and Kimberly Martinez of Lincoln School.  Click here to see their entries

LEGION BIRTHDAY

Post 70 will celebrate the Legion Birthday on Mar. 16 from 2PM till 6PM. Food and drinks will be served at no cost to members & guests.

VALENTINES DAY  Our "Romantic Valentines Pasta Dinner" was a huge success and generated a profit of almost $600 which was split between the Post and Unit. Congratulations to Doug Gentles of Squadron 70 who won the judging and is our 2008 Pasta Princess!

SUPERBOWL PARTY  The SuperBowl Party was a huge success with over 30 members & guests attending and a NY GIANTS WIN!.

SYA DONATION MADE Our annual donation to the Nutley SYA from the sale of holiday decorations was made on  Dec. 21 at 7:30PM in the main hall. Check out  NEWS to get more details 

EO VA HOSPITAL WARD PARTY 

Our monthly visit  to the 12th floor ward of the East Orange VA Hospital for December included gifts, many of which were hand made by Unit 70, for the patients.  See the article in our Press Release or PostScript newsletter.

VETERANS DAY 2007 Veterans Day ceremonies were held on Sunday, Nov. 11 at the WWII monument and included addresses by Lt. Cmdr Steve Rogers, 1LT. Nick Briener, and Mayor Cocchiola.
